Well done to all runners who travelled the short distance to Leixlip to run in the 5k race today. With almost perfect conditions, there were some PB's set by our athletes. Pictured is Orla Reidy who finished 3rd female overall with a time of 19:09.

National Novice Cross Country Dungarvan - 6th December 2015

Rachael Smyth claimed a well deserved silver medal at today's national novice cross country in Dungarvan. After the torrential rain of the last two days the course in Dungarvan was very sticky and muddy. However this did not deter Rachael. She was one of the favourites for the race but as is often the case in novice an athlete comes out of the woodwork to shine. On this occasion Aoife Cooke from Cork took up the running on the first of 2 laps. Rachael however was never far off the pace and ran a perfect race to finish within 10 seconds of Aoife to claim the silver medal. Nicole O'Malley also running for Kildare in this race came 40th with Kildare county team 5th county.
In the juvenile races earlier on Aoife O'Cuill (u15) also ran an excellent race to finish 27th and win a gold medal with the Leinster team. St Cocas had a full team in this race having qualified 4th from Leinster and they all ran the race of their lives to move up the team rankings to 6th team. Kirsten Monaghan finished in the top 50 and Aoife Rattigan, Lea Murray and Maud O'Shea all running well above themselves they have a lot to look forward to next year.
In the u13 girls both Orla Reidy and Emily Eiffe ran strongly to assist Kildare county to 8th place. Orla in the top 30 and Emily top 60.
In the boys races Shane mcNerney and Eoin O'Toole ran u15 and scored on Kildare county team. Oisin O'Cuill had another good run in u17 to finish in the top 40.
In the last race of the day the novice men Kevin Kelly struggled in the tough conditions but finished strongly in 26th place, assisting Kildare to 6th county.

Kildare Senior Cross Country - 29th November 2015

Rachael Smyth put the disappointment of her omission from the European cross country team well behind her today when she was a very impressive winner in the Kildare senior cross country. Over the 4k route she finished over 2 mins ahead of the 2nd placed athlete and led the club team to county silver medals. Rachael started the race as she meant to go on and after only about 800m was about 200m clear of the field. As they turned the corner and faced up the hill the conditions took their toll and the wind almost stopped the runners, Rachel however dug in and got stronger as the race went on. Behind her Lynda Gormely, Joan McGillicuddy and Marianne Mulreid were working well together and over the two laps Lynda got up to 5th place, Joan 9th and Marianne 13th to finish 6 points behind a very strong Celbridge team. A great team result for the women especially as we had no women's team for the past two years.
The men's race was a different matter as the runners had to face that hard 2k lap 5 times. Barry Murphy from Celbridge was a fairly clear winner however our lads packed well together to take a club bronze, also an improvement on last years result.
Rory Mooney 10th, Michael Malone 14th, John O'Boyle 15th and Eoin Reidy 20th showed the power of real team running to work well even when the going was tough. Bronze medals were a just reward. Well done to all. Just one more cross country to go next weekend in Dungarvan where a number of athletes will complete in the national novice and juvenile uneven ages.

All Ireland Cross Country Santry - 22nd November 2015

Some great performances today from St Cocas athletes at the all Ireland cross country held in Santry Demense. Underfoot conditions were remarkably good considering the rain during the week and the course held up to the 10 races on the programme.
Rachael Smyth and Claire Tarpley both in action in the women's 8k and Claire had a very strong run to finish 11th. Rachael running in the u23 category also had a fine run to win a individual bronze medal. In the men's senior race Kevin Kelly was up in the top 3 u23's for about 7k of the race but faded a bit in the final lap to come 5th in his category.
Earlier in the juvenile races Tadhg McCauley was running his first all Ireland and finished in the 30's in boys u12. Orla Reidy and Kirsten Monaghan both running u14 ran great too with Orla in the top 30 (a year out of age). Eoin Reidy and Michael Malone in the junior men's 6k where both lads ran their best in a top class field.
The senior races today were also selection races for the upcoming European cross country. Selection will be announced in the coming week. Well done to all today on reaching all Ireland level.

Great run by Rachael Smyth to finish 3rd in the U23 all Ireland cross country today in Santry.

Leinster Cross Country - 8th November 2015

Our new tent was a welcome sanctuary from a mucky wet day at Leinsters.

Character building is what people call days like today when running cross country and as we travelled to beautiful JFK park just outside New Ross in Co Wexford it felt more like insanity. Most of the club travelled by bus and to say visibility was at a minimum on the way down was an understatement. Even the hillsides seemed to be retaining the incessant rain.
Not to be daunted we had athletes competing in every one of the 10 races which is an achievement in itself.
The girls u11 took their marks and ran their hearts out with Ava Geoghegan 23rd and also first Kildare athlete. Aoishe Gormely 50th, Aoife Carey and Georgia Nolan came 16th team from 22 starters.
Boys u11 next and our young men all still u10 ran fantastically. Daire McNickle 23rd and 2nd Kildare athlete. He was supported by Sean Walsh, Killian McCauley and Sean Kelly. The team finished 13th.
U13 girls and first medals of the day where Orla Reidy 13th and Emily Eiffe 25th helped Kildare to bronze medals.
Tadhg McCauley running up an age also ran a great race to finish like a train in 26th position.
U15 girls saw Aoife O'Cuill win our first individual medal of the day when she had a great run to finish 8th. Behind her the team packed well together to take 4th place finish and qualify for the all Ireland finals in Waterford in 4 weeks time. Aoife Rattigan, Kirsten Monaghan, Maud O'Shea and Lea Murray the other team members.
Aine Burke our sole and Kildare's sole representative in u17 where she finished 22nd. A great run.
Oisin O'Cuill coming back into form helped Kildare to bronze medals in u17 boys coming 14th.
The inter women's race was up next and the course had really cut up at this stage. Nicole O'Malley showed great courage as she started up with the leaders. Finishing 5th at the end it was her best race of the season.
Last race of the day the inter men and St Cocas fielded a pretty strong team. Kevin Kelly in his first year eligible to run in this category showed his ability to finish 3rd overall. The team finished 6th and county 4th. Rory Mooney 15th, John O'Boyle, Larry Kelly, Rob O'Brien and Aidan Kelly all running great.

On a day like today medals were secondary. All the runners put themselves on the line in tough conditions and did the club proud. Well done to all.

Paul Robinson and Bobby King Visit Juvenile Training - 2nd November 2015

Paul Robinson made a surprise visit to the track tonight before he heads off down under for a few weeks training in Australia. The young athletes were delighted to meet Paul and even ran a lap with him!

Bobby King shows everyone his European masters medals....never too old to be a European medalist.

What an achievement! Great to see you all enjoying the experience at Chapelizod. I'm sure you had your own highs and lows but all came through safely in the end. It would be unfair to single any one out on a day like today ...ye were all brilliant!!

Leinster Cross Country Moyvalley - 25th October 2015

Our athletes took the short journey to Moyvalley hotel just outside of Enfield for the Leinster cross country. Conditions were ideal for the event and our athletes ran well in top class competition.
First up the girls and boys u10 non championship race. Aoishe Gormley and Daire McNickle were our representatives in these races and both performed excellently taking medals. Aoishe finishing 11th and Daire also running brilliantly to take 4th in his race.
Next up the championship races where Ava Geoghegan was our sole representative in the girls u12. In her first ever Leinster race and running up an age she finished 41st in a very large field, and 2nd Kildare athlete. Next up was Tadhg McCauley in the boys u12. In another fantastic race Tadhg was always up in the top 15 throughout the race and finished 11th to medal and make the Leinster team for the upcoming All Ireland's.
Our u14 girls team were looking strong throughout the race and finished well to take a 6th place team result. Best on the day was Orla Reidy 24th, Aoife Rattigan, Rebecca Travers, Kirsten Monaghan, Maud O'Shea, Lea Murray and Rachel McEnroe.
Eoin O'Toole was our sole runner in the u14 boys race and he found the going tough in his first Leinster cross country but finished strongly. Aine Burke also had a fine run in the girls u16 to finish 2nd Kildare athlete in 31st place.
Both Jamie Campbell and Shane McNerney were running up an age in the u16 boys and finished 44th and 45th of almost 70 runners.
In the last juvenile race Eoin Reidy made the Leinster team finishing 9th in the u18 boys. Michael Malone finished well in the junior race.
Only one adult member in action today where Nicole O'Malley ran a strong first half in the novice women but faded slightly in the 2nd half.
Competition was tough today but everyone gave their all on the day. Next up for these young athletes in two weeks time in JF Kennedy park just outside New Ross in Wexford.

Some photos of medal winners today in the Leinsters cross country held in Moyvalley today. Aoishe Gormley, in girls U10, Daire McNickle (4th) in the boys U10, Tagdh McCauley in the boy's U12, and Eoin Reidy U18 & Michael Malone U19. Fantastic running by everyone who took part today.

Longwood 5K and 10K - 18th October 2015

A great turnout of St Cocas athletes at the Longwood 5k and 10k this morning. Eoin Reidy the top finisher coming 2nd over the line in the 5k and Larry Kelly winning the o50 category in 4th place overall. A number of our athletes got new PB's in the 5k. Well done to everyone who donned the St Cocas singlet today.

Later on in the day the first major cross country of the day took place in the Phoenix park. Nicole O'Malley had a good run in the 5k race in advance of the Leinsters next weekend. Kevin Kelly finished 25th overall in the 8k race (4th u23) and Rachael Smyth 6th overall (2nd u23).

Next weekend in one of the biggest weekend of the year. Almost 20 St Cocas athletes will be in action in the Dublin city marathon and many of our juvenile athletes will be competing at the first Leinster cross country in Moyvalley House hotel just beyond Enfield. Good luck to all taking part in these event.

Kildare Cross Country Day 2 Suncroft - 11th October 2015

Another very successful morning for St Cocas today at day 2 of the Kildare cross country in Suncroft. Weather conditions were perfect for the events which started off with the girls u9 where almost 60 young girls lined up for the 500m race. Our team of little girls ran brilliant coming home 6th team of 10. Led by Erin Murray she was closely followed by Roisin Beggan, Elaina O'Malley, Lauren Nolan, Emily Byrne, Ciara Flaherty and Anna Carey. Boys u9 were next and we had great hopes for the boys and they did not disappoint. Finn Dowling and Robert Lynch were always in the top 4 and finished 2nd and 3rd at the finish. The team claimed silver medals with Cormac Murray, Hugh Dowling, Finn Killeen and Sean Miley making up the team.
In the girls u11 Ava Geoghegan again had a marvellous run to finish 3rd and lead her team to superb bronze medals out of 10 teams. Aoishe Gormely 7th Aoife Carey, Georgia Nolan, Grace Maher, Niamh Flynn and Kate Carroll running well.
Boys u11 and all of our boys were running up an age group. Daire McNicoll after his great run last weekend finished 5th. The team put in a brave performance to finish 6th. Cillian McCauley, Oisin Miley and Sean Kelly the scorers.
In the girls u13 we had high hopes for our team and they won our only juvenile team gold of the day. Orla Reidy had a fantastic run to take an individual bronze. Rebecca Travers 4th, Emily Eiffe 9th and Doireann Killeen 13th combined well to take the title.
Tadgh McCauley was our sole representative in the boys u13 and showed his improvement this season to finish 5th overall.
Aoife O'Cuill another athlete who has been making great improvement and finished 3rd in girls u15. Kirsten Monaghan 9th, Maud O'Shea 11th and Lea Murray 12th won team silver.
Shane McNerney had another fantastic run in boys u15 to come 5th and Eoin O'Toole not far behind in 9th both ran great but were missing a third scorer.
Oisin O'Cuill was our sole representative in the boys u17 and led the race for over half but was overhauled in the last lap. It was a great run after just returning from injury.
Unfortunately we had no representatives in the girls u17 or u19 but both Eoin Reidy and Michael Malone ran in the intermediate men's race where they scored on our winning team. Eoin was the first u19 over the line and Michael 3rd.
The intermediate race was another exciting affair with our team keen to take the double after winning the novice last weekend. Another fantastic performance by the men with Rory Mooney taking individual silver followed by Eoin and Michael. Not far behind was Rob O'Brien, Damien Tolan, John O'Boyle and Gareth Daly who all combined to take the title.
The intermediate ladies race started a little earlier that expected and one of our runners did not make the start in time however the other three runners ran terrifically well with Joan McGillicuddy taking the overall bronze medal. Sinead Kelly 7th and Cathy O'Brien 13th.
Well done to all of our athletes. Great performances all round this year and we look forward to Leinsters in a few weeks time.
Thanks to parents who assisted on the days and to anyone who took photos. Great to have the support on the sideline and a huge thanks to the supporters who stayed till the end to support the adult teams.

The girls u13 team who won our only juvenile team gold medal in the recent Kildare cross country. Orla Reidy 3rd, Rebecca Travers 4th, Emily Eiffe 9th and Doireann Killeen 13th combining well to take the title.

Kildare Cross Country Day 1 Suncroft - 4th October 2015

Excellent performances also today by our juvenile athletes in Suncroft. First race of the day was the girls u10 and Aoishe Gormley led our young team home to 4th place with a marvellous 2nd place individual run. Georgia Nolan, Grace maher, Ella Thompson, Aoife Carroll, Ava O'Leary and Anna Carey were only two points behind 2nd place.
The boys u10 were one of our stronger ages and Daire McNicoll led the team off and stormed into an early lead. However a little bit of local knowledge by the local Suncroft athlete saw him just get ahead of Daire in the last quarter of the race. However the team were successful in the team race where Sean Walsh (5th) Finn Dowling (6th) Daniel Geraghty (15th) Robert Lynch (20th) Cillian McCauley (23rd) Sean Kelly (37th) Oisin Miley (40th) and Adam Gibbons (44th) in a field of almost 50 runners.
Ava Geoghegan had a stormer in the girls u12 where she worked her way up the field to 3rd place. Niamh Flynn and Aoife Carey ran well in this race but unfortunately no 4th runner to make a team.
Tadhg McCauley proved that determination and consistency pays off with a terrific 3rd place in the boys u12. In a race he said was 'too short' for him he finished well and his team 5th overall with Conor Rattigan, Adam Walsh and Mark Flaherty also running well.
The girls u14 was one of the races of the day and our team all ran great to take bronze medals in a top class race. Orla Reidy and Aoife Rattigan in the top 10 with Maud O'Shea, Kirsten Monaghan, Lea Murray and Rachel McEnroe on this team.
Eoin O'Toole was our sole representative in the boys u14 where he finished top 10 to qualify for Leinster cross country.
Unfortunately we did not have teams in u16 girls or boys but Aine Burke 5th and Jamie Campbell 4th and Shane McNerney 5th all made the Kildare squads for Leinsters. Laura Rattigan ran in a mixed u18/novice and masters race which was pulled in at 3k when she expected a 4k race. She was well up in the race but unsure how she finished in the u18 race. Bernie Durkan was our sole representative in the novice and ran well in her first club race for a few years.
Best was left until the end with our novice men taking gold individual and team title. Rory Mooney in the club colours for the first time raced to perfection only taking the title in the last 20m. His performance spurred on his team mates and Eoin Reidy 4th, Michael Malone 5th, Rob O'Brien 9th, Aidan Kelly 10th and Mark Durkan won the team title for the 2nd year in a row. Larry Kelly, Damien Tolan, Johnny Murray and Martin Geraghty all running the masters race but no results to date.
All in all some great club performances from our 8 years olds to out 21+++. Next Sunday we will be back in Suncroft for u9/11/13/15/17 and 19 and intermediate men and women.

Kilcock Primary schools cross country 2015. A massive 'Thank You' to Kilcock GAA for the use of their facilities and grounds.

Liz McDonnell 5k Castletown House Celbridge - 20th September 2015

Kevin Kelly showed a great turn of speed to take the Liz McDonnell 5k cross country for the third year in a row this morning in Celbridge. With less than 1k to go he was lying 2nd about 80m behind local Celbridge athlete Barry Murphy but over the last 200m he kicked for home to take the win with only a couple or yards to spare. Larry Kelly also had a great run with Damien Tolan just behind and John O'Boyle not far behind him either. Sinead Kelly was the sole club woman running and she finished well up the field in about 22.30.

Weekend News - Posted 13th September 2015

Well done to everyone who put on the club singlet this weekend to represent the club. Too many to mention names we had athletes in Adamstown for the cross country, Lucan 5 mile, Athlone half marathon, Maynooth 5k and Donadea 5k. Great results all round. A special mention to the crew who travelled to Adamstown in Wexford. An early start to meet the bus at 8am, we had over 20 athletes participating on a true cross country day. Wind and rain to start, plenty of cow pats (nice and fresh) and sunshine to end. All enjoyed the experience and supported each other all the way. Roll on the next day out!
And to our marathon runners, they have been spotted on many of the highways and byways around Kilcock and Maynooth getting in the miles.
Well done everyone.

Fit4life continues on Tuesday. Hope you all got your planned run in over the weekend. For new members still time to join. Just come along on the night. Time to get off the fence!! 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday at the track. We won't be tackling a marathon any time soon but 5k is within everyone's ability.

The hardy bunch, out in the real x-country weather. Others taking refuge in the bus.

All Ireland Masters Track and Field - 26th July 2015

Great news coming from the masters All-Ireland where we had two strong competitors and emerged with 2 medals. 'The King' Bobby, ran well but with his high standards, somewhat struggled and still came home with a bronze medal. A role model for every athlete in the country who eats, sleeps and drinks athletics. Well done Bobby.

Our other athlete Deirdre O'Reilly continued her dominance in the one lap race and retained her title with another great 400m. She has been consistent over the past few years, and unstoppable in her quest for more gold medals.

Well done both and this time next year, the club would love to see lots more competing at this level.

National League Round 2 Santry - 19th July 2015

St Cocas were well represented at round 2 of the national league in Santry today. Competing for the county athletics team Claire Kennedy and Nathan Murphy got the team off to a tremendous start in the walks. Claire finishing 2nd and Nathan winning premier division. Later on Kevin Kelly had a good solid run in the 1500m to take 2nd place and Eoin Reidy mixed it with a few seasoned seniors to come 4th in the 800m in a new PB. Most of the Kildare team are still teenagers and competing at this level is a big step up for them however they all stepped up to the mark and performed well above themselves. Scores not available at the moment but looks like the women will make the final in two weeks time with the men just missing out. Well done to them all.

Leinster Team Events - 1st June 2015

On probably the wettest coldest day in memory for 1st June our young teams travelled to Tullamore today for the Leinster team events. We had six teams competing and came away with 3 sets of medals. On the day when the wind and rain dominated the races our u9 boys put in a sterling performance to claim the gold medals. The team of Feilim Dickius, Robert Lynch, Finn Dowling and Oisin McCarthy finished the events with an emphatic win in the relay to seal the victory. The boys u10 had some great individual performance with Daire McNickle and Sean Walsh winning the 600m. The other members of the team Sean Kelly and Conor O'Shea combined to finish 5th overall. Girls u10 also had some brilliant performance with Aoishe Gormley and Claire Kelly winning the turbo javelin. The team later won the relay which helped the team to bronze medals. Georgia Nolan, Aoife Carroll and Grace Maher also members of this team.
The girls u11 of Niamh and Orla Flynn, Ava Geoghegan and Aisling McCarthy also finished 5th overall, having placed 3rd in the relay. Also claiming bronze were the boys u13. Conor Dikcius was an impressive winner in the 200m and Pearse O'Reilly having a great day at the long jump. Joined on this team were Tadgh McCauley and Conor Rattigan. 3 of these boys were u12 so a great performance by them all.
Finally the girls u14 all moved up to compete u15 where they finished 6th. Competition was tough but Aoife Rattigan had a terrific run in the 800m. Lea Murray, Kirsten Monaghan and Anna Malone all competed on this team.
Well done to all these young athletes and their parents who braved the elements. Sometimes it's easy to look at the weather and decide to stay at home but our young athletes are gutsy and don't let bad weather be an excuse.

Winners! Boys u9 Leinster team competition.

And the girls did brilliant too....here's a few more pics.

Weekend News - Posted 27th May 2015

Four St Cocas athletes were part of the Kildare county national league team who were competing in round 1 of competition last Sunday in Templemore. Claire Kennedy got the women's team off to a flying start in the Walk with a 2nd place finish. All through the day Kildare performed consistently well with either first or second places and at the end of the day finished on top of their pool and now lie 3rd overall. This is in the premier section. The men also performing featured Nathan Murphy in the walk, Eoin Reidy making his league (and Kildare co.) debut in the 1500m and Kevin Kelly in the 800m. In a very competitive pool the team are lying 6th, 12th overall in the division. However with a number of key athletes unavailable and just 10 points outside the qualification zone they have everything to play for in round 2. Well done to all on representing your county.

Well done all 248 athletes that took part today.
Congrats to all St Cocas athletes who took part and those who made the winners podium. The race started at Musgraves at 3pm and went straight down into the town centre.
Fantastic day 'for the parish'. Great to see the local support for Paul Robinson in his journey to the Rio Olympics. Well done to everyone who took part, to the marshals and to anyone who helped out in any way either by sponsorship or selling flags. A special thanks to Noreen Keane who was the official course measurer and to Fintan Reilly who did MC for the race. Both of these people are true grassroots supporters of athletics. Paul's journey continues and now he knows for sure he has the support of us all here in Kilcock. Thanks also to the pupils of St Joseph's primary school and Scoil Uí Riada in Kilcock for their support.

Well done to Kevin Kelly and Nicole O'Malley on their wins.
Normal service resumes now for everyone so it's back to training tomorrow for the juveniles and Thursday for adults.

All Ireland Masters Indoors Athlone - 15th March 2015

Deirdre O'Reilly won the clubs first All Ireland gold medal of 2015 with a stunning victory in the 400m at today's indoor masters in Athlone. In a very quick 74 seconds she flew around the track to claim victory. A well earned bronze to Larry Kelly in the 3000m where he ran his usual solid steady race and worked his way through the field only getting to 3rd place with 200m to go. Bobby King was unlucky to miss out on a medal but very satisfied with his run of just over 12 minutes in the 3000m. Well done to all three athletes keeping St Cocas well up on the national scene.
