The summer outdoor season is off to a strong start, and what a week itβs been for the St Cocas AC βοΈπββοΈ
On the track, we were delighted to host the second round of the county league, welcoming hundreds of juvenile athletes from across the county for a brilliant day of competition, fun and memories π
Further afield in Cork (MTU), Maebh Caffrey claimed a superb silver medal in the 1500m at the Irish University Championships, representing Maynooth University π₯ A fantastic achievement in her first IUAA Championships.
At schools level, there were some more great performances, with Caoimhe Farrell taking silver in the 100m π₯, while Rory Pope delivered an impressive double, gold in the long jump π₯ and bronze in the 100m π₯
On the roads, our teams put in a strong showing at the Kildare County Road Races. The womenβs team finished 4th, the menβs team secured 3rd π₯, and Alex Wallace led the way with the individual victory π₯
It was a busy weekend beyond the county too. At the Connemara Half Marathon, Jackie Ryan (2:13:43), Brenda Beirne (2:16:51), Jane Ennis (2:28:05), Sarah Griffin (2:26:38) and Jeannie Duncan (2:23:05) all represented the club with pride, while Marc Augustin also delivered a strong performance in the marathon, taking the title in 2:39:44 π
As if the Irish racing scene wasnβt enough, Bernard and Dee Phelan headed to Nice for the 10k and 5k, while Sinead OβReilly took on the iconic Boston Marathon π
Itβs fantastic to see so many of our members competing across such a wide range of events and disciplines. Performances like these are built on consistent effort, commitment, and team spirit, and theyβre something every athlete should take real pride in πͺ
A brilliant week for the club, and plenty more to look forward to as the summer season gets into full swing β¨
