Abbotstown cross country course was the venue for today's All Ireland uneven age group championships. After the very heavy rain over the previous 24 hours the underfoot conditions were very poor, however the rain held off for most of the juvenile races which was a small mercy for the young athletes.
St Cocas were represented by 16 athletes starting with girls u11. An unbelievable run by u10 athlete Amelia Brogan saw her cross the line in 34th place. She was 9th placed Leinster runner improving by almost 20 places on her Leinster race. Tara Fagan also had a super run here. Kildare team finishing 6th.
Garbhan Prendergast 68th was the top performer in the boys u11. Harry Naughton and Conall O'Dochartaigh also running well. Kildare County 11th.
St Cocas had a club team in girls u13. Led by Lucy Doolan was was also representing Leinster. She had a marvellous run to finish 33rd. She missed a Leinster medal by one place but can be well pleased with her improvement in the past year. The club team of Lucy, Holly Fagan, May Hughes, Aoibheann Graham, Amy Hedderman and Louisa Burke came 16th club improving on their Leinster showing.
Liam Keogh was our sole representative in the boys u13 finishing 13th. Kildare County 10th.
Matthew Ennis had another fine run in the boys u15 to finish 26th. Closely followed by Eoin Kelly in 32nd. Matthew Burke also ran here and Kildare County 8th.
Last but not least Ethan Sykes was running u17. A strong showing here he helped the county team to a very respectable 5th place.
Everyone who ran out there today showed tremendous grit and determination. Massive improvements by everyone since last year. Congratulations to everyone who took part in the cross country since the end of September. Looking forward to some indoors now.
